According to a recent survey in Western Australia, conducted on October 19th, it has been found that the majority of teenagers have once again openly stated that e-cigarettes are easily accessible. Additionally, many teenagers believe that their parents are unaware of their addiction to e-cigarettes.
The investigation report was conducted by Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, Chair of the Children and Youth Committee, and was released on Thursday. The survey collected data from over 3,000 teenagers aged 12 to 18, with nearly one-third admitting to having tried e-cigarettes.
An investigation has revealed that the use of e-cigarettes now surpasses traditional cigarettes, with 73% of teenagers believing that obtaining e-cigarettes is "very easy." "I hope that adults can understand just how prevalent the phenomenon of e-cigarette use is among our generation. They may think their children are well-behaved, but the reality could be that there are one or two e-cigarettes hidden in their pockets or drawers," wrote one surveyed teenager.
Jacqueline expressed that e-cigarettes have had a significant negative impact on the behavior, health, academic performance, and interpersonal relationships of adolescents. She also pointed out that despite doctors considering e-cigarettes to be less harmful than smoking, the long-term effects are still unclear, and e-cigarettes can still damage the lungs and be associated with short-term health issues such as nausea, respiratory irritation, chest pain, and palpitations.
