Illinois Lawmakers Proposed a Bill Banning Indoor E-cigarette Use

Illinois lawmakers proposed a bill prohibiting the use of electronic cigarettes and vaping devices indoors and within 15 feet of entrances. Several health organizations support the proposed legislation to protect public health and reduce exposure to secondhand smoke.

Dr. Tabatha Wells, Board Chair of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, said that vaping fumes contain formaldehyde and other toxins that can harm users and people around them. She pointed out that e-cigarettes can be just as dangerous as regular smoking and unsafe for teens and young adults.

If the bill is passed, Illinois will join several other states, including New York, California, and New Jersey, in banning indoor e-cigarette use.
