Tobacco taxes will increase across Europe and extend to next-generation products under a draft impact assessment of the new Tobacco Excise Tax Directive (TED), which the European Commission is expected to present for debate in the European Council and Parliament on December 7.

The document outlines several options for taxing new and traditional tobacco products, with the Commission presenting its preferred option. While this is only a working draft and the actual draft directive may differ when it were to be submitted on December 7, it highlights which option the Commission prefers for consideration.
