Two school districts in Florida have reached a settlement with Juul, after accusing the company of selling e-cigarettes to minors.
On Wednesday, members of the Palm Beach County School Board in Florida approved a preliminary settlement agreement with an e-cigarette manufacturer. This came as a result of joining a nationwide lawsuit brought forward by over 1,400 government agencies.
According to a report by The Palm Beach Post, officials in the area have stated that this settlement agreement could result in over $10 million in compensation to schools in Palm Beach County over the next five years.
The school district, government agencies, and 32 tribal governments have filed a joint lawsuit against the company, along with 8,500 individuals.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, as part of a settlement agreement with an e-cigarette company, public schools in Orange County, including Orlando, will receive approximately $5.4 million. The company was accused of marketing its products to minors.
In June 2020, the Orlando County Public Schools joined thousands of other districts and individuals in suing Juul.
Last December, the company reached a settlement agreement worth hundreds of millions of dollars regarding the design, manufacture, production, advertising, marketing, distribution, sales, use, and performance of Juul products.
