On September 30, 2025 - According to a report from Channel News Asia on September 29, security personnel at Singapore's Bishan MRT station immediately pursued a man who attempted to flee after passing through security screening. They discovered that he had discarded an e-cigarette in nearby bushes. The security personnel apprehended the man, who admitted to owning the e-cigarette, and turned it over to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigation.
This incident is part of the Singapore government's efforts to crack down on e-cigarette use. Since August 18th, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has increased enforcement measures in collaboration with public transport operators, especially through security checks, resulting in the arrests of a significant number of offenders. In the past six weeks, around 60 offenders using e-cigarettes have been apprehended.
Starting from September 1st, illegal activities involving e-cigarettes will face stricter penalties, with repeat offenders possibly requiring smoking cessation treatment. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has stated that in addition to stepping up patrols in public transport systems, inspections in places such as schools and tertiary institutions have also been intensified.
