According to Indonesian media outlet Mediaindonesia, Indonesia is expected to complete the derivative regulations of the "Health Law 2023" by the end of 2023. These regulations will include provisions on the protection of addictive substances in tobacco and e-cigarette products.
Previously, the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, stated that this derivative regulation could be completed as early as the end of September 2022. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the Director of Public Service and Communication Bureau at the Indonesian Ministry of Health, expressed in an interview that the process of drafting the regulation is still ongoing. Despite the lengthy timeline, there have been no instances of deadlock in the discussions surrounding the regulation.
Diah Satyani Saminarsih, the founder and CEO of the Indonesia Strategic Development Initiative Center (CISDI), has highlighted several major issues in healthcare legislation and regulations. These include the management of healthcare workers, the integration of primary health services, healthcare for non-communicable diseases, the protection of addictive substances in tobacco and e-cigarette products, emergency response to abnormal conditions and outbreaks, healthcare financing, community participation, and governance of guidance and supervision.
Nevertheless, Dia stated that we still believe there is a need for further in-depth discussion on the various components of hygiene regulations.
