According to news reports on August 11th, In the Bozyazı district of Mersin, more than 700,000 illicit e-cigarette tobaccos worth approximately 7.5 million TL (approximately $18,000) were seized, and one suspect was apprehended.
According to the information received, under the coordination of the Anamur Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, teams from the Mersin Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Bozyazı District Gendarmerie Command carried out anti-smuggling operations. The teams learned that a vehicle driven by the suspect, C.Ü., was carrying a large quantity of illicit e-cigarette tobacco. The vehicle was subsequently stopped on the Mersin–Antalya D-400 highway, within the boundaries of Tekeli Neighborhood in Bozyazı district. While the suspect was taken into custody, a search of the vehicle revealed 701,600 illicit e-cigarette tobaccos packaged in 3,508 cartons.
The seized e-cigarette tobacco, with an estimated market value of around 7.5 million TL (approximately $18,000)., was taken into evidence. Following the suspect’s statement at the gendarmerie, he was referred to the Anamur Courthouse. Although he was brought before the court with a request for arrest, the suspect was released under judicial control.
