Company|BAT Invests in Expansion of Italian Factory, Adding 16 Production Lines for Heated Tobacco and Nicotine Pouches
BAT Italy will expand its Trieste plant, adding 16 new production lines for heated tobacco cartridges, nicotine pouches, and nicotine replacement therapy products. The expansion adds 6,300 m² of space, bringing the total to 30,000 m². This is part of BAT’s €500 million five-year investment plan launched in 2023.

Key Points:

·Expansion and Recruitment: BAT Italy is adding 16 new production lines at its Trieste production site and plans to hire 150 professionals by 2026.

·Product Positioning: The new production lines will focus on new nicotine products, including heated tobacco cartridges (for the Italian market only), while also expanding production capacity for oral nicotine pouches (sold to 16 European countries) and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products.

·Site Expansion: A new 6,300 square meters of production area will be added, and the expanded recycling warehouse will bring the total area to 30,000 square meters, tripling the original planned area.

·Employment and Positions: The project is part of BAT Italy's five-year plan announced in 2024 and is expected to create 2,700 jobs, primarily in manufacturing and engineering.

·Investment Background: The expansion is part of a five-year €500 million investment plan launched in 2023. By 2024, BAT had invested 168 million euros in Italy, created an output value of 30 million euros, and made a profit of 1.6 million euros, all of which had been reinvested in development.

2Firsts, September 15, 2025 - According to reports from ticonsiglio and ilsole24ore, British American Tobacco (BAT) Italy plans to hire 150 new positions at its Trieste production site through expansion and the introduction of new production lines.

BAT Italy has added 16 production lines to the site and expects to complete the recruitment of 150 professionals by 2026.

The expansion will be entirely dedicated to the production of new nicotine products, including heated tobacco cartridges, which users can use with specialized heated tobacco devices. These products will be sold exclusively in Italy.

These new production lines will also join existing lines for the production of oral nicotine pouches (currently sold in Italy and 15 other European countries) and the recently commissioned production line for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products. The expansion will add an additional 6,300 square meters, including the reuse of a disused warehouse in Trieste's Cargo Village, bringing the total area to 30,000 square meters: triple the original industrial plan's 10,000 square meters.

As part of its annual plan, BAT Italy announced in 2024 that it would create 2,700 jobs over the next five years. The majority of these future positions are expected to be in the production and manufacturing sector, encompassing roles such as production operators, equipment maintenance, quality control, technicians, engineers, and production process coordinators.

The expansion is part of a five-year, €500 million investment plan launched in 2023. According to data analysis, BAT invested €168 million in 2024 alone, generating €30 million in output. Profits reached €1.6 million in the previous fiscal year, all of which were invested in company development.

Special Report| Vuse Gains as U.S. Cracks Down on Illegal Vapes, But a $590 Million China Export Shadow Looms
The payoff is here: BAT’s Vuse has seized a rare regulatory vacuum to reverse its U.S. slide, capitalizing on a crackdown that seemingly compressed the illicit market to 54%. But the victory is fragile. A record $590 million export shock in October signals the gray market is striking back—pitting a fleeting compliance dividend against a massive inventory wall.

EUIPO Rejects Imiracle’s Opposition to ‘Crystal’ Trademark, Citing Lack of Proof of Actual Use in Slovakia
The EUIPO has ruled that Imiracle failed to demonstrate actual commercial use of its “Elfbar Crystal” brand in Slovakia, and therefore rejected in full the company’s opposition to Shenzhen SKE Technology’s application to register the “Crystal” trademark. The EUIPO noted that the sales records submitted by Imiracle were limited in scope and that the product packaging was in Ukrainian, which it found insufficient to prove that the products had been placed on the Slovak market.
