Concerns Rise Over Disposable E-cigarette Sales in Northern Ireland
Fermanagh Herald reports: Sales of disposable e-cigarettes in Enniskillen are 'alarming', store employee reveals.

According to reports from the Irish media Fermanagh Herald, employees of a local store in Enniskillen have expressed concern over the "alarming" sales of disposable e-cigarettes in the area. A store in the region has been revealed as the second largest sales point for disposable e-cigarettes in Northern Ireland. Disposable e-cigarettes first entered the UK market in 2015 and have quickly gained popularity among all age groups. Suppliers have introduced a variety of flavors and tastes for e-cigarette products to cater to customers.

As the news of Ireland's upcoming ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes spreads, a shop employee in Enniskillen welcomes the move, with Northern Ireland also considering similar action. The employee commented:

E-cigarettes are our best-selling product. Our e-cigarette sales are almost on par with traditional cigarettes. The sales of e-cigarettes at our store in Enniskillen are the second-highest in all of Northern Ireland. When you closely analyze the number of units sold, it is a concerning figure.

The prices of disposable e-cigarettes vary locally, starting from 6 pounds with some products costing as high as 13 pounds. A shop assistant at Niskilin expressed concern over the increasing number of young people purchasing e-cigarettes.

Many young people who have never smoked before are now starting to use e-cigarettes.

The store clerk said.

I think this is because trends and various fun fruit flavors attract them. I believe that since they have not been popular for long, people are still not aware of what health problems they may cause in the future.

Ms. Denise McCallion, the Health Improvement Manager at the Public Health Agency, recently stated that overall smoking rates have increased. Ms. McCallion said:

When cigarettes burn, they produce over 7,000 toxic chemicals, many of which have been proven to cause cancer and other serious illnesses. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for yourself, with benefits for your health, appearance, and finances. However, it can be a challenge.

Ireland's Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, recently confirmed that his proposed Nicotine Inhaling Products Bill has received cabinet approval to address the increasing severity of this issue.

According to RTÉ News, the bill proposes to ban the sale, manufacture, or import of disposable e-cigarettes in Ireland. Prime Minister Simon Harris has expressed his support for this proposal.

The UK government recently confirmed its commitment to banning the sale of disposable e-cigarettes, with the new measures expected to come into effect in April next year.

PMI Faces Setback in India: Global Regulatory Fragmentation Complicates Its Smoke-Free Transition
India has reaffirmed its 2019 ban on e-cigarettes and heated tobacco devices, effectively blocking Philip Morris International (PMI) from launching IQOS in the country despite years of lobbying. Together with Taiwan, China’s conditional opening of heated tobacco products, and Japan’s planned 2026 excise tax hikes, these moves highlight increasingly divergent national regulatory pathways—an external uncertainty shaping PMI’s smoke-free growth trajectory.
