European Parliament calls for expanding smoke-free areas in Poland, supported by government despite slow implementation. EU aims 5% smokers by 2040.

According to Politykazdrowotna, the European Parliament has called for the expansion of smoke-free areas in places such as restaurant terraces, parks, and beaches. This initiative has received support from Poland, although unofficial information suggests that the Polish government plans to strengthen laws on this issue, the government is not actively implementing them.

The European Union's new tobacco control plan aims to reduce the proportion of smokers to 5% by 2040. In line with this goal, the European Parliament has passed a resolution to expand smoke-free environments, including banning smoking in parks, beaches, and restaurant terraces. Poland has expressed support for this initiative but has not shown any immediate intention to tighten laws. According to undisclosed information, the government currently has no plans to introduce stricter regulations.

Despite previous announcements, Poland has yet to implement regulations restricting the sale of e-cigarettes. This issue has been under discussion for nearly a year, and the proposed amendment to the Health Protection Act, which was supposed to include regulations on e-cigarettes and was scheduled for discussion on December 18th, once again failed to make it onto the agenda. The Ministry of Health explained that the complexity of the matter has led to delays in progress.

In the revision of the tobacco law, the planned ban on the sale of nasal snuff was not implemented, with these products only being prohibited for sale to minors. Meanwhile, the government has also postponed the revision banning the sale of flavored heated tobacco.
