According to Russian news website Banki, the Russian legal information website has announced that Russian citizens will be able to use a digital passport displayed on the "Gosuslugi" (Public Services) application to prove their age when purchasing tobacco and alcohol.
Initially, Russian citizens were able to use this digital passport when purchasing tobacco and alcohol, at train stations, movie theaters, when applying for government public services, financial market institutions, and mobile network operator services. Starting from January 1st, 2024, the digital passport can be used to access office centers with access control systems, validate eligibility for discounts or free services, send or receive packages and registered mail, and in insurance companies.
In addition, starting from January 1, 2025, the public will also be able to use the Gosuslugi application when checking into hotels and accessing healthcare services. The use of this application is entirely voluntary, and existing paper documents can still be used without any limitations.
