Every year, the National Tax Agency of Japan discusses the tax system from November 11 to 17, during which time the meaning and role of the national tax system is understood in depth and events are held to learn about the tax authorities. As of now there has been no news of changes to the tax system.

The tax rate on heated tobacco products has been gradually changed in five stages since October 2018, and the tax increase on heated tobacco products was completed in October this year.
