Oklahoma Lawmaker Calls for More Regulation and Enforcement of Marijuana

On March 7th, many Oklahomans voted against legalized recreational weed. Representative Scott Fetgatter said, "100% of the state of Oklahoma, every county, all 77 voted against it."

Medical marijuana has been a big business for the state for nearly five years. However, the rapid rise of marijuana growers and dispensers across the state has caused headaches for other members of the agricultural community and law enforcement.

The state farm bureau stated that the existing spread of marijuana farms is significantly damaging agricultural infrastructure. "We have seen the negative impact the rapid growth of the unregulated medical marijuana industry has had on Oklahoma agriculture and the rural communities," said Scott Blubaugh, president of American Farmers and Ranchers. "We have seen a rise in farming challenges and a strain on our rural electric and water utilities."

Oklahoma is now drowning in a sea of weed, with more marijuana out there than state license holders to ingest it. "There's enough marijuana, I've been told, grown in Oklahoma to supply the entire United States. This was supposed to be about medical use in Oklahoma, and it's gotten way out of control," Gov. Kevin Stitt said.

Several marijuana-related bills are working their way through the legislature right now. It would require more information to get a license to grow here.
