According to Virginia Business, Swedish Match—owned by Philip Morris International (PMI)—will close its office in Richmond, Virginia, in April 2026 and cut 135 jobs. The information comes from a notice filed with Virginia Works, the state’s workforce agency.

The report said Swedish Match President Thomas G. Hayes wrote in a letter that the company will cease operations at its downtown Richmond office located at 1021 E. Cary Street. The notice added that impacted employees are associated with multiple PMI subsidiaries and affiliated entities, including Triaga Retail, PMI Global Services Unit, Swedish Match Cigars, Swedish Match North America and Pinkerton Tobacco, among others.

In a statement, PMI said the closure is linked to changes in how it is organizing its U.S. operations. The company said it is consolidating key capabilities and functions into strategic “hub” locations to improve speed, flexibility and responsiveness to consumer needs, and to prepare for continued growth and scaling of its smoke-free business. PMI added that most Richmond employees will be offered relocation opportunities.

The report noted that Swedish Match is headquartered in Stockholm and was acquired by PMI in 2022. In the United States, it manufactures nicotine pouches, chewing tobacco and cigars, and employs about 1,300 people.
