The report revealed that in the third quarter of 2023, PMI's net revenue surpassed its previous single-quarter sales record for the first time, reaching $9 billion. This achievement was mainly attributed to the strong performance of IQOS and nicotine pouch ZYN.
In the third quarter and first nine months of 2023, Philip Morris International (PMI) achieved the following sales performance for its main smoke-free products, as revealed by 2FIRSTS analysis.

In Q3 of 2023, the total shipment volume of HTUpod reached 32.47 billion units, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 18%. Among them, the European market recorded the highest number with 13.15 billion units, indicating a 12.6% YoY growth.
In the first nine months of 2023, the shipment volume of HTUpod reached 91.3 billion units, showing a year-on-year increase of 18.3%. Among them, the European market had the highest shipment volume, reaching 34.96 billion units, indicating a market sales growth of 19.3% after adjustments. Notably, Germany experienced a remarkable growth of 33.6%, while Italy witnessed a growth of 16.3%.
Another region that experienced significant growth is Japan, with a growth rate of 14.9%.
Nicotine Pouch
In the third quarter of 2023, the shipment volume of nicotine pouches ZYN reached 115 million cans, reflecting a remarkable year-on-year increase of over 100% and a sequential growth of 20.5%. Notably, the shipment volume in the United States stood at 105.4 million cans, exhibiting a significant surge of 65.7% when compared to Swedish Match AB's 6,360 cans in the third quarter of 2022.
In the first 9 months of 2023, the shipment volume of nicotine pouches reached 295 million cans, witnessing a remarkable surge of over 100% compared to the previous year. Notably, the United States accounted for 268 million cans, representing a significant share of 90.8%.
According to a forecast by PMI, the total annual shipment volume of nicotine pouches is projected to be between 390 million and 410 million cans in 2023, an increase from the previous estimate of 370 million to 400 million cans.
According to the report, the total number of users of PMI's heat-not-burn product IQOS is approximately 27.4 million, with an increase of 200,000 compared to June.
It is noteworthy that the PMI report does not mention its vapeVEEV line of products.
