Police Successfully Bust Counterfeit Trademark Case in Yangjiang City
Police in Yangjiang city broke up a counterfeiting ring, arresting 6 suspects and seizing over 100,000 fake e-cigarettes.

Recently, the police in Yangjiang City successfully cracked down on a case involving the production and sale of counterfeit registered trademarks. They busted a counterfeiting den and arrested six suspects on the spot. Approximately 100,000 fake electronic cigarette products and 19,700 counterfeit electronic cigarette tubes were seized in the raid, with a total value exceeding 30 million yuan.

Since the beginning of this year, the Municipal Public Security Bureau Food and Drug Environmental Investigation Detachment has been focused on the "Kunlun 2022" special action, under the unified deployment of the Provincial Public Security Department and the Party Committee of the Municipal Public Security Bureau. The team aims to crack down on various illegal activities that harm the legitimate rights and interests of market subjects and hinder enterprise development by infringing on intellectual property rights, and fully safeguard the overall economic development of our city. At the end of April, the Municipal Public Security Bureau Food and Drug Environmental Investigation Detachment discovered that a group was producing and selling counterfeit electronic cigarettes in the urban area of our city and selling them to other places, involving huge amounts of money. The team immediately operated the case and led relevant departments to strengthen the analysis of clues.

Upon preliminary investigation, the police found that the gang had rented a building within a company's factory area in the city as their hideout. Due to the multiple buildings in the factory area and numerous companies renting the space for office use and production, a wide range of personnel and vehicles entering and leaving the area made the investigation difficult. The police utilized advanced analysis and monitoring techniques, including round-the-clock surveillance, to track down a suspicious out-of-town truck with an irregular schedule. The truck usually arrived at the factory area before 5 am to unload raw materials for production. Once the products were urgently produced, they were immediately boxed up, and the truck would typically leave Yangjiang around 5 pm on the same day, with a frequency of 3 to 5 days. The factory workers who dealt with the truck would usually rest during the day and start production after 7 pm at night. They only organized urgent daytime production when the truck brought fake raw materials for production.

After more than a month of in-depth investigation, the police further grasped the criminal facts of the gang's production and sale of counterfeit electronic cigarettes and clarified the gang's member structure and supply chain. On the morning of June 2nd, when the timing was right, the Food and Drug Environmental Investigation Detachment of the Municipal Public Security Bureau led the Jiangcheng Branch of the Public Security Bureau and jointly worked with the tobacco department to mobilize more than 50 police officers and law enforcement personnel. The operation was carried out in two ways, and they raided the production workshop and employee dormitory in the factory area. The police arrested six suspects, including Lan Moufei, Yuan Mouyu, Xiao Mouhao, Hou Mouting, Wang Mou, and Zhu Mouhong, as well as 62 production workers. At the scene, they confiscated about 100,000 counterfeit electronic cigarettes, about 19,700 electronic cigarette tubes, 20 welding machines, 19 capping machines, two vehicles, and other tools involved in the case.

After interrogation, six suspects confessed that they had been producing and selling counterfeit electronic cigarettes at their manufacturing site since January of this year in order to make a profit. The gang would then distribute the fake products to other areas, with the total amount of money involved estimated at over 30 million yuan. The case is currently still being investigated.

Recently, a counterfeit e-cigarette company sent a thank-you banner to the Food and Drug Environmental Investigation Team of the municipal public security bureau, expressing gratitude to the police for using tough methods to break up the gang and make positive contributions to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and purifying the market environment.
