According to a report published by South Korea's Hyundai Economic News (현대경제신문) on October 15, 2026, Philip Morris Korea launched TEREA ONYX, a new tobacco stick line for IQOS ILUMA heated tobacco devices, on the same day. The initial products, TEREA ONYX AMANG PEARL and TEREA ONYX CALI PEARL, feature Fresh Filters and flavor capsules. Both carry a suggested retail price of KRW 4,800 per pack and are available at convenience stores nationwide and IQOS-operated stores.

The launch expands the South Korean TEREA tobacco stick portfolio from four product lines to five.

TEREA ONYX Debuts With Two Capsule Tobacco Sticks

TEREA ONYX is a new consumables line developed for the IQOS ILUMA heated tobacco device series. Its name draws inspiration from onyx, a layered gemstone, while its predominantly black packaging uses different accent colors to distinguish the two initial products.

According to information provided by the company to Korean media, both products feature tropical-inspired flavors but differ in the intensity and character of their refreshing taste.

TEREA ONYX AMANG PEARL comes in orange-accented packaging. Philip Morris Korea describes its flavor profile as a softer, gradually spreading tropical freshness.

TEREA ONYX CALI PEARL features yellow and pink packaging accents. The company describes it as offering a stronger, more intense tropical freshness.

Both products incorporate Fresh Filters and flavor capsules. According to Philip Morris Korea, the sticks provide a refreshing taste before the capsule is crushed, with an additional flavor introduced after activation.

Korean news outlet NewsPim reported that the company described this combination of pre-activation freshness and an additional post-activation flavor as a first for TEREA products.

TEREA already included capsule variants before the ONYX launch. The announcement therefore does not mark the introduction of capsule tobacco sticks to the TEREA portfolio. The company did not disclose specific changes to capsule composition, filter materials or manufacturing technology.

South Korean TEREA Portfolio Expands to Five Product Lines

With the launch of ONYX, the TEREA portfolio in South Korea now comprises five product lines: Tobacco Blend, Tobacco Blend Capsule, Fresh Blend, Fresh Blend Capsule and TEREA ONYX.

Rather than introducing two additional variants under an existing capsule line, Philip Morris Korea established ONYX as a separate product family within its tobacco stick portfolio.

The company said it plans to introduce additional ONYX products to address different flavor preferences. It has not disclosed the number of planned variants or their launch schedules.

The two initial ONYX products entered convenience stores nationwide and IQOS-operated retail outlets on October 15, rather than being distributed as limited editions. The company has not disclosed initial shipment volumes, sales targets or the number of participating retail outlets.

Capsule Tobacco Stick Portfolio Expanded Throughout 2026

The ONYX launch follows several additions to Philip Morris Korea's TEREA capsule tobacco stick portfolio during 2026.

On February 5, the company introduced TEREA SHINE PEARL. According to a NewsPim report published at the time, the launch increased the number of TEREA capsule variants in South Korea to seven, bringing the overall portfolio to 21 products.

In August, Philip Morris Korea also introduced TEREA LIMONA PEARL, further expanding its capsule product selection.

Unlike earlier launches involving individual capsule variants, ONYX represents a separately named product line introduced with two products simultaneously.

Philip Morris Korea has previously said that TEREA tobacco sticks are manufactured at its Yangsan plant in South Korea, supplying both the domestic market and overseas destinations. The company has not separately disclosed production arrangements or export plans for the new ONYX products.

Industry Perspective: Consumables Segmentation on an Existing Device Platform

TEREA ONYX continues to use the existing IQOS ILUMA device platform. The launch focuses on consumable flavor profiles, capsule activation experiences and product-line segmentation, without a disclosed change to core heating technology or the introduction of a new device.

From the February introduction of SHINE PEARL to the October launch of ONYX, Philip Morris Korea has continued expanding its capsule tobacco stick offerings. The latest launch establishes a distinct product family rather than adding only individual variants.

The move broadens the consumables portfolio associated with the existing IQOS ILUMA platform and adds another layer of product differentiation alongside tobacco, fresh and capsule variants.

Both ONYX products are priced at KRW 4,800 per pack. Available disclosures do not establish whether this represents a premium over other TEREA lines in South Korea, and the company has not released sales performance figures for the new products.

UK HMRC Launches Vape Duty Stamps on October 1, Ushering in Supply-Chain Traceability as Chinese Exporters Face New Compliance Hurdles
HM Revenue & Customs put the UK's Vaping Products Duty and Vaping Duty Stamps Scheme into effect on October 1. All vaping liquids manufactured in or imported into the UK are now subject to duty at £2.20 per 10ml, regardless of nicotine content. The stamp regime will introduce digital functionality designed to provide traceability throughout the supply chain, with approved manufacturers, importers and warehousekeepers required to report product movements and retailers and consumers eventually able to scan stamps to verify authenticity. China exported $177 million of vape-related products to the UK in August, up 51.4% year over year, increasing the significance of the new compliance regime for China's Shenzhen-centered vape supply chain.

UK Directors Banned After 352,688 Vapes Imported From China Were Misdeclared as Medical Nebulizers in £15 Million Tax Case
The UK Insolvency Service said YSK Enterprises imported large quantities of vapes from China in 2023, with a shipment addressed to the company declared as medical nebulizers before Border Force found 352,688 vaping products. HMRC calculated nearly £15 million ($20.3 million) in unpaid VAT and customs duty, alongside about £437,000 in corporation tax. Two directors were disqualified for nine years. The case predates the UK's Vaping Products Duty, which will introduce vape-specific excise and duty-stamp requirements from October 2026.
