Québec to Levy New Tax on Vaping Next Autumn

Regulations
Dec.12.2022

Quebec plans to impose a tax on e-cigarette products. The idea was included in Thursday's economic update and was welcomed by anti-tobacco groups.

The federal government has already imposed a similar tax, which will take full effect in the new year. Quebec's excise tax is expected to match it and be applied to product prices next fall.

Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador are all moving in the same direction.

Staff at the Quebec Coalition for Tobacco Control (QCTC) are pleased that Quebec has joined other provinces in this measure, as they report a significant increase in high school students using nicotine e-cigarette products.
