The New South Wales government in Australia recently announced that it will hold a roundtable meeting on November 16th to discuss the escalating issue of e-cigarette usage in schools.
This week, the state government has extended invitations to key stakeholders to attend the New South Wales government's inaugural e-cigarette roundtable. The roundtable will gather perspectives from principals, students, health experts, and other key stakeholders on the issue of e-cigarettes, which has wider implications for the entire community. The e-cigarette roundtable will hear testimonies on how e-cigarettes influence young people and schools, and discuss effective intervention measures within schools.
The attendees of the roundtable conference included representatives from the New South Wales Department of Education and the New South Wales Teachers Federation, among others.
In addition, several principals from public, independent, and Catholic primary and secondary schools in New South Wales were also invited to participate in a roundtable meeting to discuss their experiences in dealing with e-cigarettes and incidents related to e-cigarettes in schools.
The additional funding of AUD 6.8 million injected into this initiative by the Labor Party government aims to combat the illegal sale of e-cigarettes and support young individuals addicted to vaping.
The Governor of New South Wales, Chris Minns, stated:
We are committed to addressing the prevalence of e-cigarette usage in New South Wales schools.
