Russia Considers Restoring Inspection of Alcohol and Tobacco Companies
Russian government considers restoring inspections of alcohol and tobacco sales companies as part of efforts to combat counterfeit products.

According to a report by newdaynews on October 10th, the Russian government is considering reinstating inspections for companies that sell alcohol and tobacco products. This move is seen as a crucial step in cracking down on counterfeit products. It has been revealed that the Ministry of Economic Development has received a research directive from the cabinet.

Russian State Duma deputy and deputy head of the bipartisan working group, Sultan Hamzaev, has called for the reinstatement of inspections on companies specializing in the sale of alcohol and tobacco. He highlighted the potential harm low-quality alcohol and tobacco products could pose to consumers' health. This appeal comes in light of the recent large-scale alcohol poisoning incidents that occurred earlier this year in the Samara, Ulyanovsk, Penza, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kurgan regions, as well as in Chuvashia and Udmurtia.

In order to stabilize economic development and alleviate the burden on businesses, the government suspended planned inspections on small, medium, and large enterprises in March of last year. Initially, this policy was supposed to be in effect until the end of 2022, but it was later extended twice and finally set to continue until 2030.

Hamzayev believes that resuming inspections on companies selling tobacco and alcoholic beverages is a necessary measure, which could imply a revision of the policy.
