Alexei Sinitsyn, first deputy chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, at a "round table" devoted to the tobacco industry, pointed out the need to eliminate counterfeit products from the domestic tobacco market.

In his opinion, despite all state efforts, Russians are still slow to quit smoking, and Rosstat (Federal Statistical Service) data show that more than 20% of Russian adults smoke, a figure that has not changed for several years. Price increases will only make cigarettes cheaper.

According to Rosstat (Russian Federal State Statistics Service), the production of legal cigarettes has dropped by 17% this year, while the share of counterfeits is growing. Russian Duma deputies have said that they want to introduce policies to govern the market.
