The Rise of Teen Use in Accessible E-Cigarettes
A recent survey in Western Australia reveals that most teenagers find it easy to access e-cigarettes, with many believing their parents are unaware of their habits.

According to a recent survey in Western Australia, as reported by Thewest, the majority of teenagers have once again expressed that e-cigarettes are easily obtainable, with many believing that their parents are unaware of their addiction to these devices.

The investigation report was conducted by Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, the Chair of the Children and Youth Committee, and was released on Thursday. The survey gathered data from over 3,000 adolescents aged 12 to 18, of which nearly one-third admitted to having tried e-cigarettes.

An investigation has revealed that the proportion of people using e-cigarettes has surpassed that of traditional cigarettes, with 73% of teenagers claiming that obtaining e-cigarettes is "very easy". "I hope adults can understand just how prevalent the trend of our generation using e-cigarettes is. They may believe their children are well-behaved, but the reality could be that they have one or two e-cigarettes hidden in their pockets or drawers," wrote one surveyed teenager.

Jacqueline stated that e-cigarettes have significantly negative impacts on the behavior, health, academic performance, and interpersonal relationships of adolescents. She further pointed out that although doctors believe e-cigarettes are less harmful than traditional smoking, their long-term effects remain unclear. Additionally, e-cigarettes still pose damage to the lungs and are associated with short-term health issues such as nausea, respiratory irritation, chest pain, and palpitations.
