Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City Confiscates E-cigs Worth over 1 billion Vietnamese Dong ($41,000)

Vietnamese authorities seize illegal e-cigarettes and shisha without documentation in Ho Chi Minh City; several brands confiscated.

According to a report by Vietnamese media Cong An Nhan Dan on December 30, 2023, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have seized various e-cigarettes and hookahs without invoices or documents and with unknown origins at a storage and trading point. It was also found that the trading activity at the said address has not been formally registered as a commercial enterprise.

The inspection team has documented administrative violations and temporarily retained all physical evidence, including various products from approximately 3,002 units.

317 Chinese-made disposable e-cigarette products containing 5% nicotine were confiscated. Additionally, 121 disposable e-cigarette products without a specified expiration date were seized. Furthermore, 100 GuiiLabs brand e-cigarettes with a nicotine content of 30MG/ML were confiscated. In addition, 60 bottles of MIST REPUBLIC brand tobacco oil with a nicotine content of 35MG/ML were also seized. These confiscated items are estimated to be worth over one billion Vietnamese dong (41,000 US$).

Spain’s Socialist Party (PSOE) has submitted a legal amendment to the Congress proposing a gradual reduction of the excise duty on nicotine pouches.
