Worrying data reveals that one in four college students have become addicted to the UK's most powerful disposable e-cigarette pen.
Aside from the 27% who are addicted to Elfbars, an additional 53% of people have reported using one since September.
Plastic puff pastries of a single vivid color, sold for as low as 3 pounds each, have the same nicotine content as 48 cigarettes.
While 45% of students said a pen could be used for a week or more, 20% of students used one up within 24 hours.
The student newspaper, The Tab, conducted a survey of 18,000 young people from 24 universities.
According to a recent investigation, since the start of the school year, the highest proportion of student users was found at Oxford Brooks University, with 67%, followed by Lincoln (64%), Newcastle, and Bristol (both at 61%).
Manchester students have the highest addiction levels.
Half of Elfbar e-cigarette users have never smoked cigarettes before. 41% only use e-cigarettes in social situations, while 36% use them every day and 23% use them occasionally.
Dr. Lion Shabbah, a professor of Health Psychology, informed The Tab that, "It's not surprising that more and more students are using Elfbars, but what surprises me is that many of them have apparently never smoked before.
We may have to make some slight adjustments in the way we handle this issue.
