Australia to Implement Strictest Regulations on Disposable E-Cigarettes
Australia is set to introduce its toughest ever regulations on disposable e-cigarettes by the end of November.

According to a report in the Australian media outlet PerthNow on November 14th, Australia's Health Minister Mark Butler has announced that the country will be implementing the strictest ever regulations on the importation of disposable e-cigarettes by the end of November.

Butler stated that this law will be phased in from January 2024, ultimately enabling state police and health authorities to effectively enforce a ban on the importation of all e-cigarettes, except those used for smoking cessation purposes.

Last week, the Australian border authorities seized approximately 35 tons of e-cigarette products from an importer who attempted to smuggle them, revealing that these products contained nicotine.

In May of this year, the Australian government announced the prohibition of importing non-prescription e-cigarette products, marking the largest smoking reform in a decade.

According to regulations, the only legally permitted e-cigarette in Australia is a prescribed product that doctors can issue through pharmacies to assist people in quitting smoking. The new measures will impose strict restrictions on the packaging and flavors of medicinal e-cigarettes and may expand laws prohibiting smoking in the workplace to include e-cigarettes.

Butler said that last week he met with colleagues from the Health Department to discuss the primary concerns of millions of teenagers who may suffer from nicotine withdrawal due to the upcoming ban.

According to a study released by Cancer Victoria in June, more than 3.5 million Australians aged 14 and above are using both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
