According to Agence France-Presse, following a regulation that will come into effect on April 1, 2026, based on a law dated September 5, 2025, British American Tobacco France (BAT France) has confirmed that it will stop selling its nicotine pouch products in France from that day onwards.
BAT France has confirmed that it will no longer be selling nicotine pouches in France.
BAT France stated that the company has taken note of this decision and will fully comply.
The company also expressed regret, stating that the ban was implemented through regulation and not through parliamentary debate. They believe that this issue should have sparked deeper public discussions surrounding public health, regulatory consistency, and economic freedom.
The company claims that the ban weakens harm reduction efforts and will continue to develop e-cigarette products.
BAT France stated that at the time this decision was made, discussions were still ongoing at the European level, including revisions to the Tobacco Excise Directive (TED) and evaluations of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD).
The company also stated that this decision is inconsistent with France's goal of achieving a "smoke-free generation" by 2032.
BAT France stated that restricting access to smoke-free products for adult smokers will weaken one harm reduction pathway, which should differentiate between different products based on their characteristics and risk profiles.
