CSIR Develops Low Nicotine Tobacco to Improve Public Health
CSIR develops new tobacco variant with 40-50% less nicotine, reducing its impact on public health, according to The Times of India.

According to a report by The Times of India on September 25th, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India has developed a new variety of tobacco with nicotine content 40%-50% lower than regular tobacco, aimed at reducing the impact on public health.

According to N Kalaiselvi, the Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India, a new variety of tobacco has been developed by a research institution under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This tobacco variant has a reduced nicotine content of 40%-50% compared to regular tobacco, aiming to minimize its impact on health. "Therefore, even if consumers use tobacco, its effects on health will be minimized as much as possible," stated Kalaiselvi.

Prime Minister Modi has previously proposed the possibility of developing such a type of tobacco, and the laboratory has successfully developed this new variety of tobacco to mitigate its effects on health. Karaseelvi stated that the laboratory is continuing its efforts to further reduce its impact by 60% - 70%.
