According to a report from Le Parisien on March 21st, a parliamentary agreement was reached on Thursday, March 21st, to ban disposable e-cigarettes favored by young people. The ban is expected to come into effect at the end of September 2024.
A bipartisan bill proposed by Senator Francesca Pasquini was unanimously passed in the Senate as early as February, following its approval in parliament in December. On Thursday, March 21st, a joint committee composed of members from both houses reached a consensus. The government subsequently announced its decision to notify the European Commission, which has six months to verify the legislation.
Health Minister Catherine Vautrin expressed support for the bill, emphasizing the negative impact of such products on health, society, and the environment. The European Commission also stated in its decision that "the proposal to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes containing nicotine is reasonable, necessary, and consistent with the objective of protecting public health."
The law prohibits the manufacturing, sale, or free distribution of disposable e-cigarettes, with violators facing fines of up to €100,000.
