Early Planting of Tobacco in Brazil's 2023-2024 Crop Season
Most of Brazil's tobacco crops for the 2023-2024 season have been sown earlier than usual to evade extreme weather conditions.

According to a report by tobaccoreporter on August 31, Kohltrade recently announced that the majority of tobacco crops for the 2023-2024 production season in Brazil have been successfully planted.

The transplantation work this year has started earlier compared to previous years, and the majority of planting work in the southern regions of Brazil is about to be completed. Farmers are hoping to avoid the scorching summer heat and cultivate a greater quantity of high-quality foliage.

Traditionally, most sowing takes place in August. However, in recent times, farmers have started planting earlier and harvesting earlier to avoid the issues caused by the ongoing drought and high temperatures experienced in the past few seasons.

The Association of Brazilian Tobacco Growers' Mutual Aid Department has stated that the recurring droughts are forcing farmers to start their work earlier than usual. However, early planting also carries risks, as some plants may die after winter frost.
