
According to the official website of the Russian Nicotine Alliance, on September 23, the Russian government announced the implementation of flexible export tariffs on various goods, including tobacco products.
If the exchange rate of the US dollar exceeds 80 rubles but is below 85 rubles, the tariff will be 4%. If the exchange rate is equal to or greater than 85 rubles but below 90 rubles, the tariff will be 4.5%. If the exchange rate is equal to or greater than 90 rubles but below 95 rubles, the tariff will be 5.5%. If the exchange rate is 95 rubles or above, the tariff will be 7%. No export tax will be imposed if the exchange rate of the US dollar is 80 rubles or below.
The measure is temporary and aims to protect the domestic market in Russia. Flexible export tariffs linked to the ruble exchange rate will come into effect on October 1st.
