According to the French media TVTN, on July 24, 2024, French Polynesia will ban disposable e-cigarettes in 2025, following the ban that took place in mainland France in September 2024.
This Wednesday (July 24th), the local health department recommended updating tobacco product regulatory laws, including e-cigarette devices, with the aim of "making these products more difficult to access and reducing the risk of addiction, especially among young people.
The government department hopes to address new challenges and strengthen tobacco control efforts in French Polynesia by revising regulations.
The revised regulations primarily include the following aspects:
Ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarette devices, restrictions on permissible flavors.
Use plain packaging to reduce visual appeal.
Restricting the nicotine content, tank size, and refillable e-liquid capacity of e-cigarettes to reduce their usage risk.
Reexamine tobacco product taxes.
A license is required in order to import, manufacture, and sell these products.
Resist tobacco product manufacturers' marketing strategies and restrict promotional efforts surrounding these products.
Designating specific areas for its consumption.
The department is currently consulting with experts in the economic and medical industries, and this consultation will continue until the end of August. This new law is scheduled to take effect in early 2025.
