Italy's financial police seized approximately 4.3 million e-cigarettes and smoking accessories at an unauthorized warehouse in Latina province, according to an October 28 statement from the Guardia di Finanza. Together with separate inspections targeting counterfeit and unsafe merchandise, the operations resulted in the seizure of more than 4.6 million items and the referral of 28 people to judicial authorities over suspected smuggling and counterfeiting offenses.

Unauthorized Warehouse Holds 4.3 Million E-Cigarettes and Smoking Accessories

The operations were conducted by the Guardia di Finanza's Latina Provincial Command as part of intensified enforcement activities in the Lazio region targeting illicit merchandise and consumer safety violations.

According to the official statement, officers discovered approximately 4.3 million e-cigarettes and smoking accessories (sigarette elettroniche e accessori da fumo) at an unauthorized warehouse in Latina province.

Authorities said the possession and sale of the products were subject to authorization requirements, with the merchandise restricted to authorized tobacco retail channels.

The seizure formed part of enforcement efforts targeting the smuggling and illicit sale of smoking products.

Financial police did not provide separate quantities for e-cigarettes and smoking accessories or disclose the merchandise's estimated value, the warehouse operator's identity or the intended distribution channels.

Official photographs show large quantities of boxed rolling papers and other smoking accessories. Authorities did not release a complete product inventory identifying the vaping brands, models or quantities seized.

Another 300,000 Suspected Counterfeit or Unsafe Items Seized; 28 Reported to Judicial Authorities

In addition to the warehouse seizure, financial police confiscated approximately 300,000 suspected counterfeit or unsafe products during separate inspections targeting trademark and industrial property violations.

According to the official statement, some inspections involved major public events in Latina and traders promoting luxury fashion accessories through social media.

Across the operations, authorities seized more than 4.6 million items and reported 28 people to judicial authorities over suspected smuggling and counterfeiting offenses.

Officials did not disclose the specific allegations involving each individual or the outcomes of any subsequent judicial proceedings. They also did not specify how many of the 28 people were directly connected to the warehouse containing approximately 4.3 million e-cigarettes and smoking accessories.

The Guardia di Finanza said the enforcement activities were intended to combat smuggling, counterfeiting and the distribution of products that fail to meet applicable safety requirements, while protecting consumers and legitimate businesses.
