Jakarta Provincial Council Candidates Promise of Support for Smoking Control in Public Places
According to a report from ANTARA on January 28th, eight Jakarta provincial council candidates pledged their support for smoking control in public places.

According to a report by ANTARA on January 28th, eight prospective Jakarta provincial council members made a public commitment during a public forum to support the implementation of smoking regulations in public spaces.

 

The forum took place in Jakarta on Saturday, January 27, and aimed to discuss how young people can tackle the health challenges in Jakarta, address public health issues, and combat substance addiction.

 

Eight candidates from different political parties, including the Progressive National Party, the Indonesian United Party, and the Just and Prosperous Party, came together at the forum. They unanimously pledged to support the proposed Public Area Smoking Prohibition Bill (Raperda KTR).

 

Jovin Kurniawan, one of the candidates, voiced his concerns during the discussion that despite observing the draft of the Public Area Smoking Ban Act for four years, the bill is still stagnant in the legislative process of the provincial assembly with no significant progress being made.

 

Another candidate, Idris Ahmad, has expressed plans to lobby the leaders of the Jakarta regional planning department in order to expedite the discussion phase of the Public Area Smoking Prohibition Bill. This commitment demonstrates that the candidates share a common understanding of the importance of pushing for the anti-smoking legislation.
