Canadian authorities seize 70,000 illegal cigarettes in a joint operation, resulting in charges against seven individuals for tobacco tax violations.

According to a recent report by the Sartiville Gazette, officials from the British Columbia Ministry of Justice and Public Safety, along with the Quebec security unit, Sûreté du Québec, jointly seized approximately 70,000 illegal cigarettes in a recent operation in Campbellton, British Columbia.

 

Seven individuals have been charged with violating tobacco tax laws as a result of seven traffic inspection activities conducted between December 1st and 2nd.

 

A quantity of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of $17,855 in provincial taxes and $11,077 in federal sales tax were confiscated following an investigation. It is worth noting that in the past eight months, law enforcement officers from the department have seized more than a million illicit cigarette packs, leading to the prosecution of 34 individuals.
