South Korea’s KT&G Pledges $290,000 to Support Tobacco Farmers’ Health Checks and Training Programs

South Korea’s KT&G has announced a 400 million won (approximately USD 290,000) initiative to support tobacco farmers through health checkups and educational training programs. Demonstrating tangible support, company employees also joined farmers in the tobacco harvesting process.

According to a report from the Korean newspaper Culture Daily on June 30th, KT&G announced that they will provide 400 million Korean won (approximately $290,000) for health check-ups and monthly education fees for tobacco farmers. KT&G is using resources from the public market, business management, insurance, and other areas to assist tobacco farmers in their development. Around 20 employees from KT&G's Raw Materials Division visited a tobacco farm in Guancunmi, Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do and participated in picking tobacco leaves.

Wales Passes Law Banning Tobacco Sales to Anyone Born After 2009

The Welsh Parliament (Senedd) has approved new legislation banning tobacco sales to anyone born on or after January 1, 2009. The law, passed on December 9, 2025, also imposes stricter controls on how vapes and nicotine products are advertised and sold. Designed by the UK Government but voted on separately in Wales, the bill passed with 36 votes in favor, two abstentions, and nine against. It grants stronger enforcement powers to Trading Standards to combat illegal tobacco and vape sales.
