Kyrgyzstan Parliament Approves Bill to Ban E-cigarettes, Modifies Fines
Kyrgyzstan's Parliament approves bill banning import, sale, and use of e-cigarettes, reducing fines for personal use to $115.35.

According to a report from Vesti.kg on June 24th, the Social Policy Committee of the Kyrgyzstan Parliament has approved a bill in its second reading that will ban the import, sale, and use of e-cigarettes within the country.

During the discussion, the committee decided to reduce the fine for individuals caught smoking e-cigarettes to 10,000 soms ($115.35). Previously, the proposed fine was 40,000 soms ($461.40), but lawmakers felt this amount was too high. The fine for corporations caught allowing e-cigarette smoking remains unchanged at 60,000 soms ($692.09).

Individuals selling e-cigarettes will be fined 50,000 soms (576.74 US dollars), while for legal entities, the fine will be 65,000 soms (749.77 US dollars).

The recommended fine for the act of importing e-cigarettes is 150,000 to 200,000 soms (equal to $1,730.23 to $2,306.98), and individuals may also face a potential one to two years of imprisonment.
