New Mexico Adds Anxiety to Medical Marijuana Program
New Mexico adds anxiety to its list of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana program, effective January 1, 2023.

Since June 2019, the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has added a new qualifying condition to its medical marijuana program.

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced during a medical marijuana advisory board meeting on December 6th that it will add anxiety to the list of qualifying conditions for enrollment starting from January 1st, 2023.

According to a press release, a request to add anxiety disorder as a qualifying condition was submitted to the board for review in March, and was approved by Dr. David R. Scrase, Cabinet Secretary for the NMDOH, in November.

Scrase states in his decision that anxiety is a debilitating illness, and although patients can use adult-use cannabis without a medical card, by adding anxiety to the list of qualifying conditions, patients will have more opportunities to discuss with their health care providers how to use cannabis to alleviate their anxiety symptoms.
