New Regulations on Tobacco Sales in the Netherlands
The Netherlands restricts e-cigarette sales to specialty stores from 2025 and sets further limitations on tobacco products.

Starting from 2025, electronic cigarettes in the Netherlands can only be sold in specialized stores. The sale of conventional smoking materials will also be further restricted.

This was announced by the Secretary of State for Public Health, Maarten van Ooijen. He pointed out that smoking can lead to "a lot of health problems" and hopes to prevent young people from starting smoking.

The cabinet previously announced that from 2024, cigarettes and tobacco may no longer be sold in supermarkets. Now there is an additional restriction: from 2030, gas stations will no longer be allowed to sell tobacco. This will only be permitted in convenience stores and specialty shops. From 2032 onwards, only specialty shops will be allowed to sell tobacco.

The tobacco consumption tax will increase by 1.22 euros in the next two years. There will also be more places where smoking is banned, and the minimum age for buying tobacco may be raised to 21 years old.
