Philip Morris Spain CEO Daniel Cuevas Advocates for Stronger Tobacco Regulations
Philip Morris Spain CEO Daniel Cuevas hopes to meet with the new Health Minister, Monica Garcia, to improve tobacco prevention measures.

According to Vozpopuli, the President of Philip Morris Spain, Daniel Cuevas, is seeking a meeting with the newly appointed Health Minister, Mónica García, with the aim of enhancing preventive measures against tobacco and reducing the impact of second-hand smoke and tobacco on minors.

According to a recent interview, Kuivas, a prominent figure, expressed his support for strengthening regulations on new tobacco products such as heated tobacco and e-cigarettes. He acknowledged that the commercial and tax growth of these products has not met expectations. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of managing the packaging, flavors, and sales channels of these new products to ensure they do not fall into the hands of minors.

Quivas emphasized that although e-cigarettes may be a better alternative to tobacco, they still need to be regulated. He argues that the appeal of the products should be controlled, including packaging, illustrations, and flavors that attract minors. Additionally, he stressed the importance of strict age verification for nicotine products to ensure that only adults are able to purchase them.

The President of Philip Morris Spain expressed his understanding and anticipation regarding the Health Minister's first statement on tobacco-related issues. He acknowledged the Minister's focus on public health as a primary objective, which he considers both reasonable and expected. He also expressed agreement with the Minister's emphasis on making decisions based on scientific evidence.

Quivas emphasized the willingness of their organization to actively engage in relevant dialogues and actively promote the search for solutions in order to protect non-smokers and prevent underage smoking. Quivas also suggested conducting research on the air quality of public places such as restaurant terraces to implement targeted restrictions on tobacco products.

Quivas believes that if independent research, such as studies conducted by Spanish universities, concludes that nicotine products are detrimental to air quality, they would fully support stricter regulations. He also emphasizes that, to their knowledge, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco do not produce secondhand smoke or have any adverse effects on non-smokers.

Kwevas concluded by emphasizing their company's strong commitment to eliminating the worst nicotine products and transitioning to better smokeless alternatives. He expressed confidence that public health workers will eventually recognize that countries like Sweden, which support the development of improved alternatives and have effective preventive and smoking cessation policies, are leading the way globally.
