Philippine Customs Seize Billions Worth of Smuggled Items in 2024
The Philippine Customs Bureau seized smuggled goods worth over 850 billion pesos in anti-smuggling operations in 2024.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported on February 12, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in the Philippines seized smuggled items worth more than 85 billion pesos (1.5 billion US dollars) in its anti-smuggling operation in 2024.

The director of the customs office, Bienvenido Rubio, stated that these smuggled goods were seized through more than 2,100 anti-smuggling operations conducted last year, including counterfeit goods, illegal drugs, smuggled tobacco, and e-cigarette products.

Rubio stated that this was in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure national security and economic stability.

In order to enhance compliance with regulations, the customs department has revoked certifications for 56 importers and customs agents who have violated customs regulations, and has initiated 45 criminal cases against individuals involved in smuggling.
