On April 29, according to the Philippine Star, the Philippine government advised e-commerce platforms to remove over 15,000 non-compliant e-cigarette merchants.
Ruth Castelo, Deputy Minister of the Philippines Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said their staff monitored nearly 15,000 e-cigarette merchants online, all of whom had violations and recommended that the platforms remove these non-compliant merchants.
On December 28, 2022, the Philippines "Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Product Regulatory Act" came into effect, and unregistered e-cigarette products will be subject to this act.
Castelo said that if online platforms strictly comply, there is no need to cancel the sale of the products.
"Although it has been marked which products cannot be sold, some products still evade detection."
2FIRSTS previously reported that DTI's Consumer Protection Group (CPG) issued a stern warning to e-commerce platforms that sell e-cigarette products to minors. CPG believes that the packaging of these e-cigarettes on the platforms is very attractive to minors.
At the time, Castelo "sternly" reminded the platforms at a meeting, asking them to comply with the law, especially to ensure that minors cannot access e-cigarette products.
