Request for Regulation of E-Cigarettes on Pakistani Youth
Pakistan's Anti-Smoking Alliance formally requests Governor Haji Ghulam Ali to regulate e-cigarettes for youth, emphasizing urgency in a detailed letter.

According to a report by the Pakistan News Agency on January 2, the Pakistan Anti-Smoking Alliance has officially requested the Governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Haji Ghulam Ali, to implement regulations on e-cigarette usage targeting young people.

 

The alliance believes that preventing teenagers from using cigarettes and e-cigarettes is an integral part of the governor's responsibilities.

 

In order to prompt the governor to take immediate action, the alliance also sent a detailed letter to Haji Ghulam Ali. The letter thoroughly outlines the potential health risks of e-cigarettes on young individuals and emphasizes the urgency to address this issue.

Philip Morris International (PMI), through its subsidiary Swedish Match, has started large-scale production at a 600,000-square-foot ZYN nicotine pouch facility in Aurora, Colorado. The $600 million investment makes the site one of three ZYN manufacturing plants in the United States and the company’s second U.S. facility after Owensboro, Kentucky.

Daegu’s Jung-gu District announced on Feb. 10 that, following amendments to the Tobacco Business Act that explicitly classify liquid e-cigarettes containing synthetic nicotine as “tobacco” (effective April 24, 2026), the district will expand regulations to include fines for vaping such products in designated nonsmoking areas. The district health office said smokers/vapers could face an administrative fine of up to 100,000 won for using synthetic-nicotine liquid e-cigarettes in smoke-free zones

At a parliamentary committee meeting in South Africa, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the health department has agreed to exempt non-combustible and smokeless products — including chewing tobacco, snus, nicotine pouches and e-cigarettes — from the Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill. The department is prepared, at this stage, to exempt them from packaging and labelling requirements except for misleading or false claims.
