Rise in E-cigarette Use Among Colombian Middle School Students
Colombian companies fined over $149.6 million for not properly labeling and advertising e-cigarettes, targeting middle school students.

According to a report by Eluniversal, a study conducted on the consumption of psychoactive substances among national secondary school students in 2022 has revealed that one out of every five students in grades seven to eleven in Colombia has used e-cigarettes at some point. The age range of these students is between 12 and 18 years old.

In response to this situation, the Colombian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Supervision Bureau has fined British American Tobacco Colombia, Lifetech, and DYI Group over 1.496 billion Colombian pesos (approximately 2.64 million Chinese yuan). The reason behind this penalty is that their e-cigarette packaging and advertisements failed to clearly state the health risks associated with the product, and some of the products lacked Spanish language descriptions.
