According to recent reports from Russian media outlet 59.ru, authorities in the Kamada region are considering implementing a new measure to curb the popularity of e-cigarettes among students. The proposal under consideration involves prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes within a specific radius of schools.
During a recent parliamentary session, Anna Baranova, the chairwoman of the Communist Party faction, posed a question to Alexey Chibisov, the Minister of Industry and Trade in the Kama region. Baranova highlighted the proliferation of non-permanent e-cigarette retail stores, which have sprung up like mushrooms after rain. She inquired about any potential measures being considered to restrict the sale of e-cigarettes near educational institutions, as students constitute the primary consumer base for such products.
In response, Alexey stated that the sale of tobacco and nicotine products, including e-cigarettes, is prohibited within a 100-meter radius of schools. Authorities recommend imposing fines ranging from 3 to 5,000 rubles for individuals who violate the restrictions, while legal entities could face fines of 20,000 rubles.
Previously, representatives of the Perm Territory Legislative Council supported two legislative initiatives in the first reading - one to ban the sale of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and lighters in kiosks. In order for the bills to become law, the regional legislators must approve them in the second reading. This is expected to take place at the next plenary session of the legislative council in November.
