Russian Government Approves New Tobacco Industry Regulations
According to a report by Russian media outlet ABN24 on November 11th, the Russian government has officially approved new powers for the Ministry of Finance in the tobacco industry.
According to an official website announcement, the Ministry of Finance will be responsible for formulating national policies and regulatory systems related to license issuance, national services, and the tobacco industry.
In mid-April this year, a draft legislation was introduced proposing the transfer of regulatory authority over the tobacco market from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Finance. The draft legislation also suggests restructuring the Russian Alcohol Market Regulation Agency into the Federal Bureau of Tobacco and Alcohol Market Control.
It is expected that the government will develop regulations and establish a tobacco production and sales licensing registry moving forward.
