Russia's Udmurtiya Region Considering Ban on E-cigarette Sales
Russia's Udmurt Republic may ban the street sale of e-cigarettes, as proposed by lawmaker Nail Mukhamedzhanov at a recent party conference.

According to Russian media Susanin, on November 8th, the region of Udmurtia in Russia may potentially ban the sale of e-cigarettes on the streets. The proposal was put forth by Udmurtia State Duma member Nair Mukhamedzhanov during a strategic meeting of the United Russia party and was subsequently posted on the Russian social media site "VKontakte".

The governor of the state, Alexander Brechalov, has endorsed the proposal and has instructed the development of a bill to strengthen market restrictions on tobacco products.

Mohammedzanov said, "Neighboring regions such as the Perm Territory have already implemented similar restrictive measures, and we need to look to them as an example. As hefty fines and punitive measures at the federal level have failed to deter the mobile tobacco vendors in Udmurtia, it is necessary to introduce additional restrictions at the regional level.

It is worth mentioning that in March this year, drug experts in Udmurtiya unanimously recommended banning the use of e-cigarettes in Russia.

Russia: The State Duma Debates on Banning of E-Cigarettes
The public inspector Igor Kosarev said it is premature for Russian e-cigarette makers to worry about a ban on e-cigarette sales. He indicates that the administration doesn’t support the bill. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce were the first to voice their opposition. The Russian Ministry of Health, which was most supportive of the ban, may also soon change its position to oppose the bill.
