Study Finds Lowering Nicotine Content in E-Cigarettes Increases Usage
Study finds lowering nicotine levels in e-cigarettes increases inhalation time and intake, possibly raising toxic risks, despite potential benefits.

On August 3, according to NZCity, a new study has found that lowering the nicotine content in e-cigarettes leads to an increase in the amount and duration of inhalation by users.


A study has found that when users who are accustomed to using 5% nicotine e-cigarettes switch to devices with lower nicotine levels, their smoking time and intake will increase.


Researchers believe that this different smoking behavior may increase the risk of users inhaling toxic substances in e-cigarettes.


However, researchers also point out that reducing nicotine levels may still have some benefits, such as emphasizing its lower addictive properties in advertising.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 9 released a draft guidance outlining its current thinking on premarket tobacco product applications (PMTAs) for flavored electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). The document reiterates that fruit, candy, dessert, and other sweet-flavored e-cigarettes present a “significant public health risk” to youth and therefore face a higher evidentiary burden if manufacturers seek marketing authorization.
