TGA Fines Sydney Firms $66,600 for Illegal Vape Imports
Three Sydney companies and two individuals face $66,600 in fines over the alleged importation of 101,900 unregistered nicotine vaping products.

The Australia Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA, tga.gov.au) has issued nine infringement notices totaling $66,600 to three Sydney-based companies and two associated individuals for the alleged unlawful importation of a combined total of 101,900 nicotine vaping products. The companies, JL Partners (AUST) Pty Ltd, Wjwing Pty Ltd, and TSJ Logistics Pty Ltd, as well as a director of one of the companies and another individual serving as a director of all three companies, face allegations for attempting to import unregistered nicotine vaping products.

According to the TGA, the imported products were prescription medicines that were not registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and were not exempt from being registered. The Australian Border Force intercepted the unapproved nicotine vaping products, which are now set to be seized and destroyed under TGA's advice.

The TGA Laboratories' tests have shown that many unregulated nicotine vaping products contain dangerous and undeclared chemicals, posing a significant public health risk. The growing availability and use of unregulated nicotine vaping products have raised concerns in the Australian community, particularly among adolescents and young people. These products are associated with various health risks, including nicotine addiction, nicotine poisoning, exposure to toxins, and severe injuries and burns.

The TGA emphasizes that it will take enforcement action where serious non-compliance with the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 is identified. This recent enforcement highlights the TGA's commitment to ensuring public health and safety by cracking down on the unlawful importation of nicotine vaping products in Australia.
