【2Firsts News Flash】According to a report by Aseannow on July 24th, Thai highway police arrested a 41-year-old woman after her truck was found to be hiding a large quantity of illegal e-cigarettes, with a total value exceeding 8.3 million Thai Baht (approximately 26,000 US dollars). Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that these e-cigarettes were smuggled into the country from Malaysia.
A suspect was intercepted near the Wang Manao Highway Police Station in the Pak Tho district of Ratchaburi province, Thailand. Police received intelligence that a large smuggling syndicate was transporting e-cigarettes from Malaysia to distributors in Bangkok, so they set up a checkpoint and stopped the suspicious vehicle.
Police found 23,760 pre-packaged e-cigarettes hidden in a shipping container during a search of a truck. The suspect was detained on the spot.
According to authorities, this seizure is part of a larger crackdown on an organized smuggling network operating between Malaysia and Thailand. Authorities believe the group has been supplying illegal e-cigarette products to distributors in the capital of Thailand.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including violating the Consumer Protection Act, Customs Law, and illegal possession and transportation of contraband. She has been handed over to the Park Town Police Station for further legal proceedings.
