Thai PM orders crackdown on e-cigarette shops nationwide to protect youth, demands stricter penalties within 15 days.

On February 25, the Thai Ministry of Public Relations announced that Jirayu Huangsap, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gave important instructions on several issues at the 8th cabinet meeting held on that day.

The Prime Minister is concerned about the recent raids on e-cigarette shops in the Khan Na Yao and Khlong Sam Wa districts of Bangkok, as well as reports of the growing e-cigarette business nationwide. The Prime Minister has instructed that the e-cigarette issue is becoming increasingly serious, especially among young people, students, and university students. Despite previous instructions to relevant departments such as the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of the Interior, and the National Police Agency to crack down on the proliferation of e-cigarettes, the situation continues to worsen.

Therefore, the Prime Minister instructed Minister of State Jiraphon Sintuphan to lead the relevant meetings and collaborate with various departments to speed up the implementation of measures to crack down on e-cigarette shops, conduct a comprehensive cleanup operation, and push for the revision of laws to strengthen penalties. He also required a report to be submitted to the Prime Minister within 15 days.
